“What’s really interesting about the events, is that I can learn from the person that’s actually judging the bids. It was so useful to find out exactly what they are looking for. I will be attending more Opportunity Harlow events – they are really useful for a small business like ours.”

Emma Robson
Stort Valley Spirits Founder
“The programme provides such an amazing opportunity for local businesses to engage with each other. For us, it’s a platform to meet more local business owners. It’s free because it’s government funded. The events are only a couple of hours, and the information is really useful. So why not take part!”

Emma Knewstub
Founder of Magnificent Stuff
“The content of the event is unreal. I mean, usually, you would have to pay for that kind of education or insight. Learning whilst you’ve got a free breakfast or whilst you’re sat amongst other people in the same boat, it’s just amazing.”

Nick Eva
Director of Elite Express Logistics
“I love the concept of Opportunity Harlow. I love the whole idea of keeping the money within the town and working with people within the town. We want to work with as many local businesses as we can.”

Raja Naveed
EEHS
“As a result of the support and networking opportunities we’ve received from the Opportunity Harlow project – we’ve been introduced to HTS to present our domestic insulation services as well as to the Retrofit Academy regarding the upskilling of some of our staff members.”

Brian Glynn
EOS Lighting
“As a result of our exposure on the Opportunity Harlow portal and the connections made – we are now presenting our site lighting capabilities to Tier 1’s in the Sizewell C construction project.”

Sarah Brockwell
Director of SarahBee marketing ltd
“What a fabulous resource! We have just won a contract which was issued on Opportunity Harlow. The portal is super easy to navigate which allowed us to respond to the tender. If we had not been a member, we would have missed this opportunity. If you are a local business, then I highly recommend you join, you’ll get priority access to some great contracts and best of all – it’s free.”

What is Opportunity Harlow?
Launched in January 2022, Opportunity Harlow is a pilot programme created to make the Harlow economy more resilient.
The online members portal highlights new business opportunities as well as providing access to procurement related resources and events. Members use the events to network whilst learning from industry experts to help them win more business locally.
Run by the Haven Gateway Partnership, on behalf of Harlow Council and with links to organisations and sponsors of large-scale projects in the area, Opportunity Harlow can sign-post members to projects that are actively searching for local suppliers.
Opportunity Harlow is funded by UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.

Why Harlow?
Over £2bn of investment will be made in Harlow over the next 10 years. To give local businesses a better chance of accessing these opportunities, Harlow District Council applied for funding from the UK Community Renewal Fund to set up Opportunity Harlow.
By bringing local businesses together we hope to build wealth within the Harlow community, and support local employment.
Learnings from Opportunity Harlow will inspire similar programmes elsewhere around the country.
